21st century TV

We finally do have a Television here in Madrid.
But it is not just any TV, it is the TV of our times.
I mean everyone talks about Flatscreens and TFT's,
but no one seems to recognize, that these are the times of Retro-Style!!!
So now we can watch 4 of normally 6 programs that are free here in Spain.

And by the way, the DVD-Player on the top is just fake.
We'd like to use it, but unfortunately our Retro-TV doesn't have a scart-plug.
Those were the times...
I mean that's the price we have to pay using a old-school-TV.















It even has a coloured screen.

Tennis

My whole life I always have been wanting to play Tennis.
But unfortunately I never had the chance to,
coz I never had friends that played and in Germany it's way too expensive.
Last week a friend offered me to play. He used to play and has rackets.
So as here in Spain there are tennis courts just at the side of the streets,
like football courts in Germany, we went to play this morning.
It was fun and probably it's going to be more times than just this one time.
Maybe this is just the beginning of a great career...
or maybe just to find out that I wasn't meant to play...

Monday... a new week begins

Once again we've had a week full with a lot of interesting experiences.
What is new about language is that Maggie passed her exam and is now in the 2nd level.
Besides that I (Hendrik) got a job and had a training on thursday and friday at a language school.
Tomorrow (tuesday) I am going to teach German for the first time.
I have never done that before, but am looking forward to see how it is going to work out.
I am going to have three different groups. One group of 2 people, 1 of 3 and 1 of 6. So this is basically conversation class I am making with some business men.
So twice a week (Tuesday & Thursday) I am going to the north of Madrid, the business district, to teach.
Concerning tasks and ministry things are now becoming to get a bit more organised and after the summer break people and programs and getting back to the routine again,
which hopefully will be very good for us, becase that is what we were waiting for. So in the next weeks we also want to start a homework-help for all the pupils at church and some other activities.
At the weekend the church we are ministering at in Villaverde had its 5th aniversary.
So they planned some activities and a bit of a review on the last years.
So on saturday we went to the "parque del retiro", one of the biggest, and probably the nicest park in Madrid. We hang around, chatted, played games and paddled in small boats.
On Sunday then after the service, the church had a big lunch together and after that the married men played football against the single boys.
So you see, that it's not boring and we are looking forward to see what next week will be like

PS: Please pray for us, that we can build good relationships to other people. We really miss the fellowship with other people of our age just hanging around, encouraging one another and talking about relevant things. Thanks!

Wieder mal ist eine Woche vorbei und wir haben ne Menge erlebt.
Maggie hatte letzte Woche einen Spanisch-Test, hat ihn bestanden und ist jetzt im 2ten Level.
Außerdem hab ich (Hendrik) einen Job und hatte auch am Do und Fr schon ein Training an der Sprachschule. Morgen (Dienstag) fang ich dann an Deutsch-Unterricht an einer Sprachschule zu geben. Hab das zwar noch nie gemacht, bin aber mal gespannt wie das so klappt.
Ich werd dort 3 verschiedene Gruppen haben. Eine mit 2 Leuten, eine mit 3 und eine mit 6.
Es sind also eher Gesprächsrunden.
Zwei mal in der Woche werd ich also in den Madrider Norden, das Businessviertel, fahren um da zu unterrichten.
In Bezug auf Aufgaben und Programme fängt alles langsam nach der Sommerpause wieder an normal zu werden. Wir freuen uns darüber, weil wir so endlich in verschiedene Programme einsteigen können. In den nächsten Wochen soll in der Gemeinde für die Schüler auch eine Hausaufgaben-Hilfe starten.
Am Wochenende hatte die Gemeinde in Villaverde wo wir mitarbeiten 5-jähriges Jubiläum.
Deswegen hatten sie einige Aktionen.
Am Samstag waren wir zusammen mit den Kindern und Jugendlichen im "parque del retiro" einem der größten und dem schönsten Park von Madrid.
Da haben wir gequatscht, Spiele gespielt, sind Bötchen gefahren und die Gemeinschaft genossen. Am Sonntag nach dem Gottesdienst hat die ganze Gemeinde zusammen gegessen und die Single-Jungs haben sich danach gegen die verheirateten Männer ein Fußball-Match geliefert.

PS: Bitte betet für uns, dass wir gute Beziehungen zu anderen Leuten aus unserem Alter aufbauen können. Wir vermissen die Gemeinschaft mit Freunden hier sehr. Einfach mal rumhängen, sich gegenseitig ermutigen, miteinander beten oder quatschen. Wär cool, wenn ihr dafür beten würdet, weil uns das im Moment fehlt und ein bisschen runterzieht. Danke!

God is there, in the middle of joy and sorrows

Der letze Post ist zwei Wochen her und es ist wieder viel passiert.
Der Titel zeigt euch, dass wir uns freuen hier zu sein, aber auch nicht alles einfach ist.
In der Anfangszeit hier merken wir, wie sehr wir darauf angewiesen sind,
dass Gott uns zeigt, was er vorhat.
Ohne ihn können wir nichts tun. Das merken wir ganz praktisch.
Den ganzen Papierkram (Anmeldung, Mietvertrag, Internet, Handy) haben wir jetzt zum Glück hinter uns.
Wir haben schon einige Ideen und Anfragen für Aufgaben während unserer Zeit hier,
aber es entwickelt sich im Moment vieles erst.
Das hat auch damit zu tun, dass hier erst Mitte September die Schule wieder losging und deswegen auch in diesen Wochen bei vielen Gemeinden erst der Alltag und die Jugendarbeit wieder losgeht.
In einer Gemeinde wo wir mitarbeiten sind wir also dabei, zu planen, was wir im nächsten Jahr tun und starten können.
Allgemein gibt es schon einige Pläne:
- Maggie wird das Material für eine Homepage für Kinderarbeit zusammenstellen
- Maggie wird bei verschiedenen Gemeinden helfen Kindertage durchzuführen
- Wir werden Hauskreisarbeit starten
- Hendrik wird ab Januar eine MINI-Bibelschule für Kinder- und Jugendmitarbeiter aus verschiedenen Gemeinden beginnen.

Wir haben in den letzen Wochen schon einige Leute gut kennengelernt, freuen uns in einem guten Team von Missionaren mitzuarbeiten und ich durfte auch schon einige kleine Predigen halten.

Ansonsten fühlen wir uns hier wohl. Wir lieben die Mentalität, das Essen, den Tagesablauf und das Wetter. Im Moment ist es bei 26° sehr angenehm.

Last time we posted something has been two weeks ago and a lot of things happened.
The title lets you know, that we are glad to be here, but not everything is easy.
In that time right now we feel that we need God to show has what he wants us to do.
It is very obvious right now, that we can't do anything without him.
Fortunately we already managed to do most of the paper stuff (contract, town hall stuff, mobile, internet).
We already have quite a few ideas and requests for ministries,
but a lot of things are developping right now.
That has to do with the fact that school started in the midst of september
and therefore the youthministries in the churches are starting again right now.
In one church we are working with we are right now planning what we are going to do throughout the year.
Here are some plans for our next months:
- Maggie is going to put together material for a childrens-ministry-homepage
- Maggie is going to be involved in children days in different churches
- We are starting cell groups
- Hendrik is going to initiate a MINI-bible school for children and youth workers from January on

In the last weeks we already got to know a lot of people, are glad to be part of a good team of missionaries and I was allowed to hold some devotionals.

In general we really like to be here. We love the mentality, the food, the daily routine and the weather. It is really nice with 26°C right now.
